Another milestone for the healthyliving award

On 9th July 2008 the 350th award was achieved by contract caterers ESS  for the Army Personnel Centre, Kentigern House in Glasgow. Congratulations to ESS and to all our award holders so far!

We have also reached a new high of 900 establishments that have registered for the healthyliving award. Let's make it 1000 soon!
 
 Takeaway Health

The National Consumer Council (NCC) recently conducted a survey of seven of the UK's leading takeaway restaurants.  The research established that none of the restaurants included in the research display nutritional information on their menus or menu boards to help customers make informed choices.

In a survey 75% of consumers said they would find nutritional information useful and 61% said they would use it to buy healthier meals.

Seeking your views on scores on the doors

The Food Standards Agency is currently consulting on a UK wide scores on the doors scheme to provide consumers with information about hygiene standards in food businesses. They are seeking your views on the essential features of this scheme and on two different options for the scoring element of the scheme.  Healthy Eating, Active Living: An action plan to improve diet, increase physical activity and tackle obesity (2008-2011)

The new publication from the Scottish Government outlines how they will use the resources identified in the recent Scottish Budget to improve the nation’s diet, encourage greater physical activity and begin to establish a base for tackling obesity. They have identifies key life stages and settings, such as early years and the workplace, in which they will act.

 The action plan details specific actions the government will take over the next three years to support people to make healthier choices in what they eat, to build more physical activity into their everyday lives and to maintain or achieve a healthy weight. A number of initiatives have been highlighted, including the healthyliving award.

National Food Policy for Scotland

The next steps towards the first national Policy for Food and Drink to boost  the industry, support healthier and more environmentally sustainable choices and enhance Scotland's reputation as a land of food and drink were announced on Thursday 19th June.

CIS Excellence Awards - Healthyliving Excellence Award

The CIS Excellence Awards were held at the Hilton Glasgow on 29th May 2008 and all attending enjoyed a fantastic night and a delicious meal.

The Healthyliving Excellence Award category was sponsored by Almond Catering in conjunction with the healthyliving award and last night the winner of this prestigious award was finally announced.

The winner of the 2008 CIS Healthyliving Excellence Award is Compass Group at RBS

The healthyliving award team would like to congratulate all the staff at RBS for their efforts in supporting and promoting healthier eating across their Scottish and UK sites.

 healthyliving award winners receive their certificates

Our latest award presentation ceremonies took place at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on 22nd April, and the National Piping Centre in Glasgow a week later. The prestigious events recognised the achievements of 140 establishments in total.

 Ranging from a modern city hotel and spa to a junior rugby club, the variety of establishments to achieve the award was incredibly diverse.

The healthyliving award achieves another milestone!

On 13th December 2007 the The Abbey Mill Café and Coffee Shop in Melrose became the 200th catering establishment in Scotland to gain the healthyliving award.

The Abbey Mill Café and Coffee Shop is part of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill group and is also the 18th of this group's 18 cafes and coffee shops to gain the healthyliving award, so a very impressive achievement all round!
