Catering in Scotland Excellence Awards - success for Flourish House

27 May 2011

Flourish House has been recognised as an outstanding leader in providing healthy food, by gaining the prestigious Healthier Scotland award. The award was presented to Senior Project Worker Eddie McGinty at the CIS Excellence Awards ceremony held at the Glasgow Hilton on 26 May.

Flourish House is an independent charity that enables people with mental health difficulties to gain a sense of purpose and wellbeing.

The Healthier Scotland Award, sponsored by the healthyliving award in association with Healthier Scotland, invited nominations from all sectors of the industry. This award recognises individuals or organisations which have made an outstanding contribution to supporting and promoting healthier eating, and for making it easier for people to eat healthily.

Evidence was required to show how healthier eating practices have been supported and nurtured within the establishment. This included examples of menus, press cuttings or initiatives aimed at encouraging healthier eating and incorporating a health culture into the operation of the organisation.

The calibre of the submissions was extremely high and it proved a major challenge to decide on the final shortlist of

  • Flourish House
  • Eurest Services (Compass Group) @ Scottish Power
  • Kevin Simpson, ARAMARK @ Robert Gordon University

Congratulations to Eddie and his team in the Catering and Maintenance Unit at Flourish House for this fantastic achievement! They are delighted to have won, and to see their hard work in promoting healthy choices recognised in this way.
