6 medium apples (Bramleys or Granny Smiths)
100g self raising flour
75g oats
75g low fat spread
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp ground ginger
50g brown sugar


  • Peel core and slice the apples. Add 25g of sugar and 1 teaspoon of ginger with a small amount of water and soften in a bowl in the microwave or in a pan on the hob
  • Mix the flour and spread by hand until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the oats and remaining sugar, cinnamon and ginger
  • When the apples are soft strain off the excess juice and place in a shallow dish, cover with the crumble topping and bake in the oven at 180ºC/350ºC/Gas Mark 4 for approximately 30 minutes or until the topping in golden

In season you can add rhubarb or perhaps even add banana or pear.
