Sowing the seeds

Building on a healthy heritage

From the outset the criteria for the healthyliving award were developed to fit into a wide range of businesses, and the receipt of the award by Heritage Portfolio, a hospitality company based in Edinburgh, goes to show the continued flexibility of the award.

Robin Austin and Kirsty Hepburn of Heritage Portfolio

Heritage Portfolio caters for prestigious events, both corporate and private, at heritage venues including palaces, stately homes and buildings of distinction. They also have an online ordering facility, beetrootblue, where customers can order buffets for smaller events and meetings.

Robin Austin, Food and Beverage Logistics Manager, explained why they became involved: “We looked at the criteria for the healthyliving award and realised that our menus were already aligned in the same direction, and we could get recognition for what we were already doing.

“We found we didn’t have to make very many alterations to our menus, which we change with the seasons. Now that we have achieved the healthyliving award, the criteria have become embedded in our thinking when we are looking ahead and planning new menus.”

Kirsty Hepburn, Development Manager, continued: “We’ve added the apple logo to the menus on our website, to highlight the healthyliving choices to clients, and we’ve devised several healthier choice buffet menus which can be viewed on our Beetroot Blue website for online ordering.

“We offer restaurant-style fine dining and have found that a lot of clients want to follow a healthier starter and main course with a more indulgent dessert, so we had to think hard about desserts that met the healthyliving criteria but were still appealing. Our development chef has come up with some great desserts that are fruit-based and very tempting!

“When we are planning an event, our event designers will meet with the client which gives them an opportunity to discuss the menus and talk about the healthier options. Clients also take part in a tasting session to help them decide on menus, so this is also an opportunity to promote the healthyliving chioces .”

Robin added: “We like to win awards as it makes us stand out from other businesses. We are very proud of our healthyliving award, and it has helped us gain business, especially with clients such as the NHS for whom healthier catering at meetings and conferences is a priority.”

And the healthyliving award is proud to add such an inspirational company to its portfolio of award holders.
